Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company has communicated an incident involving the potential exposure of personal information of its customers. On June 18, 2024, the company’s information security team detected a pattern of fraudulent activity associated with a former employee. This individual, who had legitimate access to sensitive customer information as part of their job, was terminated immediately upon the discovery of the misconduct. While there is currently no evidence to suggest that the employee misused any specific customer information, it has been confirmed that the former employee accessed details such as names, Social Security numbers, and insurance policy data.

In light of this incident, Mutual of Omaha has taken proactive measures to ensure customer information is secure. They have conducted a thorough review of the information accessed by the former employee and have revoked all system access to the individual. Additionally, the company has implemented enhanced security measures within its Customer Access system to prevent similar occurrences in the future. To further protect its customers, Mutual of Omaha has a dedicated insider threat program designed to detect and mitigate any potential employee misconduct.

As part of their response, Mutual of Omaha is providing affected individuals with complimentary identity theft protection services for a duration of 24 months through Experian. This service includes features such as credit monitoring, identity restoration assistance, and internet surveillance to detect any potential fraudulent activity related to personal information. Customers are encouraged to take proactive steps by changing their passwords, monitoring their accounts for unusual activity, and utilizing the identity protection services offered.

The company emphasizes the importance of customer privacy and security, expressing regret for any inconvenience caused by this incident. Mutual of Omaha encourages its customers to remain vigilant in monitoring their personal information and to reach out to customer service if they notice any discrepancies or require assistance.
