MITRE has launched its AI Incident Sharing initiative to facilitate the exchange of intelligence on real-world incidents involving artificial intelligence (AI). Collaborating with over 15 organizations, this initiative forms part of MITRE’s ATLAS (Adversarial Threat Landscape for Artificial Intelligence Systems) framework. The primary objective is to enhance community knowledge regarding threats and defenses associated with AI-enabled systems, ultimately bolstering collective cybersecurity resilience across various sectors.

This initiative allows trusted contributors to share protected and anonymized data on incidents involving operational AI systems. MITRE emphasizes that the platform will serve as a secure environment for capturing and disseminating vital information, thus improving awareness of AI-related threats and strengthening defenses against potential attacks. By fostering a collaborative atmosphere, MITRE aims to ensure that organizations can swiftly adapt to the rapidly evolving landscape of AI threats.

Building on existing collaborations within the ATLAS community, the AI Incident Sharing initiative expands its threat framework to include new attack techniques that focus specifically on generative AI. As organizations increasingly integrate AI technologies into their operations, the need for effective incident management and robust threat mitigation strategies has never been more critical. This initiative not only helps organizations navigate the complexities of AI threats but also promotes proactive measures to defend against potential vulnerabilities.

Key players involved in this initiative include prominent companies such as Microsoft, Citigroup, CrowdStrike, and others, all committed to enhancing the security of AI systems. As MITRE Labs VP Douglas Robbins noted, standardized and rapid information sharing is essential for organizations of all sizes. By facilitating this exchange of intelligence, the AI Incident Sharing initiative empowers the community to improve its defenses and mitigate risks associated with the integration of AI into their operations, fostering a more secure digital landscape for the future.
