Atos and France Discuss Cybersecurity Assets

Atos SE is currently in discussions with the French State regarding the acquisition of its Advanced Computing, Mission-Critical Systems, and Cybersecurity Products businesses, part of its Bull Defense and Security (BDS) division. This negotiation arises amid the French government’s strategic interest in maintaining oversight of critical national infrastructure, particularly as Atos navigates its financial restructuring. The discussions are vital not only for Atos’s future but also for France’s national security, given the significance of these assets in defending against increasing cyber threats.

Recently, a non-binding offer from the French State, originally received on June 12 and revised on September 30, expired on October 4 without reaching a final agreement. Despite this setback, Atos remains committed to the negotiations and has submitted an alternative proposal aimed at aligning with its restructuring efforts. This ongoing dialogue is crucial for ensuring the continuity of services that protect sensitive data and national interests, particularly in an era of rapidly evolving cyber threats.

The Advanced Computing and Cybersecurity divisions of Atos play a pivotal role in safeguarding France’s technological sovereignty and national security. These units provide high-performance computing solutions and robust cybersecurity services essential for sectors such as defense, aerospace, and healthcare. Given the growing sophistication of cyber threats, maintaining effective oversight of these operations has become a priority for the French government, which seeks to ensure that sensitive data and critical infrastructure remain protected.

In light of the expired offer, Atos has proposed an alternative solution that is compatible with its financial restructuring plan, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a constructive relationship with the French State. The proposal includes granting the French State protective rights over critical operations through a preferred share in Bull SA, enhancing oversight of these essential cybersecurity assets. As Atos works towards finalizing its restructuring plan, the outcome of these discussions will be closely monitored, as it will significantly impact both the company and France’s strategic interests in cybersecurity and national defense.
