Swiss Post has announced its plan to acquire Open Systems, a prominent secure access service edge (SASE) provider, as part of its strategy to enhance cybersecurity for both public authorities and private companies. This acquisition reflects Swiss Post’s commitment to advancing secure communications and data protection, aiming to deliver state-of-the-art network and security management solutions on a global scale. Nicole Burth, CEO of Swiss Post Communications Services, emphasized that Open Systems’ capabilities align well with their existing cybersecurity initiatives, promising improved efficiency and security for Swiss businesses.
Founded in 1990, Open Systems has built a strong reputation for its innovative cybersecurity and network transformation services. The company has expanded its portfolio significantly, particularly after acquiring Swiss data science and AI firm Sqooba in 2020. With more than 260 employees, Open Systems has shifted its focus from managed security services to cloud-based solutions that address the evolving needs of businesses. The acquisition is currently pending approval from the German Competition Authority and is expected to be finalized this fall, ensuring continuity for all current staff under the leadership of CEO Daniel Neuhaus.
The partnership will enable Swiss Post to provide enhanced secure communication platforms that protect senders, recipients, and communication channels. Open Systems’ expertise in SASE solutions will allow Swiss Post to significantly improve its digital security offerings, catering to the increasing demand for robust cybersecurity in an ever-evolving digital landscape. Neuhaus expressed confidence that Swiss Post would be an ideal partner for driving continued growth and innovation, particularly in developing cloud-native solutions for network transformation.
Under its previous ownership by EQT, Open Systems experienced remarkable growth, doubling its sales and tripling its EBITDA while establishing itself as a leader in the cybersecurity sector. Analysts have praised the company for its innovative approach, particularly its application-driven service orchestration and AI-powered incident resolution. The acquisition not only positions Swiss Post as a more formidable player in the cybersecurity market but also underscores the importance of collaboration in enhancing digital security for both businesses and public entities in Switzerland and beyond.
