Kittle’s Home Furnishing Inc., located in Indiana, has disclosed a serious data security incident that compromised personal information collected by the company. The breach, which occurred on February 17, 2023, involved unauthorized access to sensitive documents stored within Kittle’s network. The company swiftly responded to the incident by containing the threat and launching a thorough investigation. External cybersecurity experts were engaged to assess the scope of the breach and determine the extent of the data compromise.
The investigation revealed that the compromised data included a range of personal information, such as full names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, driver’s license or state ID numbers, health insurance details, medical records, and passport numbers. Not all data elements were affected for every individual, but the breach was significant enough to warrant immediate notification. On November 11, 2023, Kittle’s completed an extensive manual review of the documents to confirm which personal details were exposed.
To date, Kittle’s has not reported any instances of identity theft or financial fraud resulting from the breach. However, out of an abundance of caution, the company began notifying affected individuals on September 16, 2024. Those impacted are advised to take proactive measures, such as placing fraud alerts or security freezes on their credit files, obtaining free credit reports, and monitoring their financial statements for any suspicious activity. Additionally, individuals whose Social Security numbers were involved are being offered complimentary credit monitoring services.
For further assistance or inquiries, Kittle’s has established a toll-free response line, available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, excluding major U.S. holidays. Affected individuals are encouraged to reach out to this line for information on how to protect themselves and to confirm whether they are among those impacted by the data breach.
