Datamate Data Breach Impacts Personal Info

Datamate Bookkeeping & Tax, Inc. recently disclosed a data security incident that may have compromised sensitive personal information. On December 10, 2023, Datamate detected suspicious activity on its network, which an unauthorized third party accessed from September 23, 2023, to December 10, 2023. The company acted quickly by disconnecting network access and engaging a specialized cybersecurity firm and IT personnel for a thorough investigation. This investigation, completed on January 25, 2024, confirmed unauthorized access to some Datamate files.

The data breach potentially exposed personal information including first names, last names, addresses, and Social Security numbers. Datamate took immediate steps to mitigate the damage, including posting notices on its website and in a statewide media outlet. The company finalized its list of affected individuals by June 3, 2024, and began notifying them directly.

In response to the incident, Datamate has made significant changes to enhance its data security. The company migrated customer data to a secure, cloud-based platform with multifactor authentication and encryption. It also upgraded its IT systems, implemented enhanced network monitoring and security measures, and provided cybersecurity training to its employees.

To assist those affected, Datamate is offering 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity theft restoration services through Cyberscout. While the company is covering the cost of these services, individuals must activate them following the provided instructions.
