Marine Home Center Email Accounts Breached

On August 30, 2024, Marine Home Center in Massachusetts reported a data breach involving unauthorized access to an employee’s email account. The breach was identified between June 3 and June 7, 2024, when an unauthorized actor accessed emails and attachments containing sensitive information. This included the personal data of one Maine resident, specifically their name and Social Security number. Marine Home Center promptly took action to address the breach, engaging a cybersecurity firm to investigate and assess the extent of the unauthorized access.

Upon discovering the incident, Marine Home Center implemented its incident response protocols to secure the compromised account. The company also contacted law enforcement and initiated a comprehensive investigation. The investigation revealed that unauthorized activity had occurred during the specified period, leading to the exposure of the affected individual’s personal information. As a result, Marine Home Center has taken proactive steps to mitigate any potential impact on the affected individual.

In response to the breach, Marine Home Center is offering one year of complimentary identity monitoring services through Equifax. This service, which will be provided at no cost to the affected individual, includes comprehensive credit monitoring and identity theft protection features. A notification letter detailing the incident and instructions for enrolling in the identity monitoring service has been sent to the affected party. Marine Home Center has also established a dedicated call center to assist individuals with inquiries and concerns related to the breach.

To prevent similar incidents in the future, Marine Home Center has enhanced its security measures. The company has reviewed and strengthened its existing security protocols and implemented additional safeguards to protect against unauthorized access. Marine Home Center remains committed to safeguarding personal information and ensuring that such incidents are effectively managed and mitigated.
