Central Florida Cares Health System Breach

Central Florida Cares Health System (CFCHS) recently informed individuals about a security incident involving an unauthorized actor who accessed an employee’s email account. The breach, which occurred between April 29 and 30, 2024, potentially exposed some personal information contained within the compromised email account. CFCHS acted quickly to investigate the issue, working closely with external cybersecurity professionals to understand the scope of the incident.

On May 31, 2024, after a thorough forensic investigation, CFCHS determined that personal information had been accessed, though there is no evidence that the information has been used for identity theft or financial fraud. Despite this, CFCHS is taking precautionary measures to protect the affected individuals by offering 24 months of free credit monitoring services through Cyberscout, a TransUnion company. This service includes alerts for any changes to credit files, providing an additional layer of protection.

CFCHS is also encouraging affected individuals to take further precautions, such as placing a fraud alert or security freeze on their credit files and regularly reviewing financial statements and credit reports for any irregular activity. These steps are recommended to safeguard against potential misuse of personal information.

In response to the incident, CFCHS has expressed its commitment to maintaining the privacy and security of personal information. The organization continues to evaluate and improve its security practices and internal controls to prevent future breaches and ensure the safety of sensitive data.
