Russian propagandists are circulating false information claiming that Ukraine will become a buffer state or an exclusion zone following the war. According to the Center for Strategic Communications and Information Security, this disinformation campaign is part of a broader effort to undermine Ukraine’s image and future prospects.
The propaganda includes manipulated images and misleading narratives about Ukraine’s post-war conditions, portraying a bleak future. These claims are spread through the banned Vkontakte network, aiming to sow doubt and confusion about Ukraine’s stability and recovery.
To support their misleading narrative, the propagandists have used a photograph of an abandoned village in Russia’s Veliky Ustyug district, which they falsely depict as a representation of Ukraine’s future. This tactic highlights the use of outdated and irrelevant imagery to create a sense of realism around their fabricated claims.
The Ukrainian authorities and the Center for Strategic Communications have condemned these efforts, emphasizing that such propaganda is part of a larger, ongoing strategy to discredit Ukraine. They stress the need for vigilance against such disinformation tactics that seek to distort the truth and influence public perception.
