Tri State Area Federal Credit Union Breached

Tri State Area Federal Credit Union (TSAFCU) has recently informed its members about a significant data breach that potentially compromised personal information. The breach, which occurred between May 9 and May 10, 2024, involved unauthorized access to an employee’s email account. Upon discovering the breach, TSAFCU took immediate action to secure the affected email account and initiated an internal investigation. To ensure the integrity of its email and computer systems, TSAFCU also engaged a forensic security firm to conduct a comprehensive review.

The investigation, completed on July 19, 2024, revealed that the documents in the compromised email account might have contained members’ names and other sensitive data. While TSAFCU has not identified any specific instances of fraud or identity theft related to this incident, the credit union is taking precautionary steps to protect its members. This includes offering a complimentary one-year membership to Experian IdentityWorks Credit 3B, which provides robust identity theft protection and credit monitoring services. The service is designed to detect and address any potential misuse of personal information, with no negative impact on members’ credit scores.

TSAFCU is committed to transparency and has provided detailed instructions for members on how to enroll in the free identity protection services. In addition to offering this support, TSAFCU has implemented enhanced security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. The credit union remains dedicated to safeguarding its members’ personal and financial information and is actively working to address any concerns resulting from the breach.

Members are encouraged to take advantage of the identity protection services and remain vigilant for any signs of misuse of their personal information. TSAFCU continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as necessary. The credit union appreciates its members’ understanding and cooperation as it works to ensure their security and privacy.
