Telangana Cyber Bureau Refunds Millions

The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB), in India, successfully refunded $3.77 million to victims of cyber fraud in coordination with various police units. This significant effort was part of the Lok Adalat programs organized by the Telangana Legal Services Authority between February 20 and June 6. The initiative aimed to provide financial relief to victims who had been waiting for extended periods to recover their money.

One of the major concerns for the victims was the prolonged withholding of funds by banks, which caused significant distress. To address this, TGCSB decided to facilitate the refunds through pre-litigation cases in Lok Adalat, ensuring that the victims received their money in a timely manner. The process was streamlined with the introduction of a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) that was shared with all District Legal Services Authorities and police units across the state.

In total, 5,142 petitions for refunds were filed in court, resulting in the issuance of refund orders totaling $3.77 million. The proactive approach taken by TGCSB reflects a strong commitment to protecting citizens from cyber fraud and ensuring that justice is served promptly. This effort is seen as a significant step forward in enhancing both cyber security and the legal response to cybercrimes in Telangana.

TGCSB Director Shikha Goel emphasized that the initiative not only provides crucial financial relief to victims but also sets a new benchmark for cyber security and legal intervention in the state. The success of this program highlights the importance of coordinated efforts between law enforcement and legal authorities in addressing the growing threat of cyber fraud.
