Critical Ivanti Flaw Allows Admin Access

Ivanti has recently rolled out critical security updates to address a severe vulnerability in its Virtual Traffic Manager (vTM), tracked as CVE-2024-7593. This vulnerability, rated with a CVSS score of 9.8, allows remote unauthenticated attackers to bypass authentication mechanisms, potentially enabling them to create rogue administrative accounts. The flaw affects multiple vTM versions, including 22.2, 22.3, 22.5, 22.6, and 22.7. Ivanti has issued patches to fix these vulnerabilities, with updates set to be available in August 2024. Users are urged to apply these updates as soon as possible to secure their systems against possible exploitation.

In response to the immediate threat, Ivanti recommends that customers implement temporary mitigations by restricting access to the admin interface to trusted IP addresses or limiting administrative access. Although there have been no confirmed instances of this vulnerability being exploited in the wild, the availability of a proof-of-concept (PoC) highlights the critical need for swift action to prevent potential attacks. The company’s advisory emphasizes the importance of updating affected systems to safeguard against this serious security issue.

Additionally, Ivanti has addressed two significant vulnerabilities in its Neurons for ITSM platform. CVE-2024-7569, which has a CVSS score of 9.6, exposes sensitive OpenID Connect (OIDC) client secrets through debug information, potentially leading to unauthorized information disclosure. CVE-2024-7570, with a CVSS score of 8.3, involves improper certificate validation that could allow a remote attacker in a man-in-the-middle (MITM) position to craft tokens granting unauthorized access to ITSM services. These vulnerabilities impact versions 2023.4 and earlier, and Ivanti has released patches for the affected versions to address these security issues.

Furthermore, Ivanti has also resolved five high-severity flaws in its Ivanti Avalanche platform, including CVE-2024-38652, CVE-2024-38653, CVE-2024-36136, CVE-2024-37399, and CVE-2024-37373. These vulnerabilities could lead to denial-of-service (DoS) conditions or remote code execution, posing significant risks to affected systems. The company has provided fixes in version 6.4.4 to address these issues. Users of Ivanti products are strongly advised to apply the latest updates and patches to ensure their systems are protected against these critical vulnerabilities and maintain overall cybersecurity hygiene.
