The flaw, identified in models such as the TVT DVR TD-2104TS-CL, Provision-ISR DVR SH-4050A5-5L(MM), and AVISION DVR AV108, stems from insufficient access controls on the devices’ web servers. This critical vulnerability, categorized under CWE-200: Information Exposure, allows unauthorized individuals to access sensitive device information through an unprotected endpoint (/queryDevInfo).
The vulnerability affects multiple software versions across the DVR models, including versions 1.3.4.22966B181219.D00.U1(4A21S) and 1.3.4.24513B190218.D00.U1(8A21S). By sending a crafted POST request to the vulnerable endpoint, attackers can retrieve detailed information such as hardware and software versions, serial numbers, and network configurations. This exposure poses significant risks, including the potential for unauthorized monitoring and manipulation of the DVR systems.
Provision-ISR, one of the affected manufacturers, has acknowledged the issue and is collaborating with TVT to develop mitigation strategies. In the meantime, security experts advise users to restrict network access to the affected DVRs and to apply any available patches. Additionally, monitoring for unusual activity is crucial to detect and respond to potential threats stemming from this vulnerability.
