Asian and Russian Firms to Operate in Iran

On July 27, 2024, it was announced that three prominent cybersecurity firms from Russia, India, and China are set to commence operations in Iran. The companies involved are Positive Technologies from Russia, Acron from India, and Sangfour from China. This development follows an agreement with the AFTA Center for Strategic Management, which outlines the conditions for these firms to operate within the Islamic Republic of Iran. The agreement signifies a major step in enhancing Iran’s cybersecurity infrastructure amid growing global cyber threats.

Under the terms of the agreement, these international firms will be responsible for supplying advanced cybersecurity products and services to Iran. The primary focus will be on providing Managed Threat Detection and Response (MDR) services, which will be centrally managed within Iran. This move is part of a broader strategy to bolster the nation’s defenses against cyber threats and to ensure more robust protection for its digital assets and infrastructures.

In addition to supplying their cybersecurity solutions, the firms are required to introduce an official domestic legal representative with full powers in Iran. This representative will facilitate compliance with local regulations and ensure that the companies meet all legal and operational requirements. The oversight of these operations will be handled by the Presidential Strategic Management Center, which will monitor and supervise the activities of these foreign firms to ensure adherence to national security standards.

This strategic partnership reflects Iran’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its cybersecurity capabilities in response to increasing cyber threats. By collaborating with established cybersecurity providers from Russia, India, and China, Iran aims to enhance its ability to detect, respond to, and mitigate potential cyber incidents. This development underscores the importance of international cooperation in the field of cybersecurity and highlights Iran’s commitment to improving its digital security framework.
