DHS and CISA Announce CSRB Changes

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) have announced significant changes to the Cyber Safety Review Board (CSRB) membership. Four esteemed members, including Katie Moussouris, Chris Novak, Tony Sager, and Wendi Whitmore, will be departing. They will be replaced by Jamil Jaffer, David Luber, Katie Nickels, and Chris Krebs. David Luber will serve as the Federal CSRB representative from the NSA, succeeding Rob Joyce upon his retirement. Joyce has been asked to continue serving on the board as a private sector member.

CISA Director Jen Easterly expressed gratitude for the departing members’ contributions and welcomed the new members, highlighting their cybersecurity expertise and experience. Robert Silvers, DHS Under Secretary for Policy, and Heather Adkins, Vice President for Security Engineering at Google, have been re-appointed as Chair and Deputy Chair respectively for a second term. The CSRB is tasked with conducting fact-finding and developing lessons learned from significant cyber incidents, playing a crucial role in enhancing national cybersecurity.

Other notable returning members include Dmitri Alperovitch, Harry Coker Jr., Jerry Davis, Chris DeRusha, Eric Goldstein, Marshall Miller, John Sherman, and Bryan Vorndran. The CSRB, established by Secretary Mayorkas in February 2022 following President Biden’s Executive Order 14028, is administered by CISA and operates independently to ensure transparency and effectiveness. The Board’s findings and recommendations are crucial in driving positive changes within the cybersecurity ecosystem.

The CSRB continues to function as a pivotal entity in the cybersecurity landscape, integrating insights from both private sector luminaries and senior federal officials. Its independent reviews and recommendations aim to fortify the nation’s cybersecurity framework, addressing the evolving threats and challenges in the digital realm. For more information on the Board’s activities and reports, the public can visit the CSRB website.
