The breach, reported to the Attorney General of Vermont, exposed consumers’ first and last names, health insurance details, Medicare/Medicaid numbers, treatment, prescription information, and dates of birth. Following an investigation, ABSG initiated the notification process, sending out breach letters to affected individuals, detailing the compromised data.
The incident, originating from a cyberattack on ABSG’s parent company, prompted immediate action and collaboration with cybersecurity experts. ABSG notified law enforcement and regulatory bodies, including the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights. The investigation identified the extent of the leaked data and confirmed the exposure of confidential consumer information.
Affected consumers received personalized breach letters outlining the compromised data and steps to address potential risks.
