Pantana Accounting and Tax Data Breach

Pantana Accounting and Tax, a full-service accounting firm based in Acworth, Georgia, has reported a data breach compromising sensitive client information. On February 24, 2024, the firm detected unusual activity on its network and swiftly secured its systems, engaging external cybersecurity experts to conduct a thorough investigation. The investigation revealed that unauthorized access occurred between February 23 and February 24, 2024, exposing client names and Social Security numbers. The breach was officially reported to the Vermont Attorney General, and law enforcement was notified of the incident.

Following a comprehensive review of the affected files, completed by April 18, 2024, Pantana Accounting and Tax began issuing data breach notification letters to all impacted clients on May 8, 2024. These letters detailed the nature of the compromised information and advised recipients to take protective measures against potential fraud or identity theft. Clients are encouraged to consult with a data breach lawyer for further guidance on safeguarding their personal information and exploring legal options following the breach.

Pantana Accounting and Tax serves over 200 businesses nationwide, offering a wide range of accounting services including bookkeeping, payroll, monthly reporting, compliance, taxes, and advisory services. With a team of over 25 professionals and generating around $5 million in annual revenue, the firm emphasizes its commitment to data security and client confidentiality. In response to the breach, Pantana is taking steps to enhance its cybersecurity measures to prevent future incidents and protect its clients’ sensitive information.

Clients affected by the breach can contact Pantana’s dedicated assistance line for further information and support. The firm remains committed to transparency and to safeguarding the privacy and security of client information in the wake of this incident. Pantana Accounting and Tax continues to work closely with cybersecurity experts and law enforcement to mitigate the impact of the breach and to strengthen its defenses against future threats.
