Microsoft has released the May 2024 non-security preview update for Windows 11 versions 22H2 and 23H2, identified as KB5037853. This update addresses 32 different bugs and introduces several new features, aiming to enhance the user experience and system stability. Among the most notable fixes, Microsoft has resolved an issue that caused Windows File Explorer to freeze when swiping from the screen edge after turning off edge swiping. Additionally, a bug that delayed File Explorer’s startup by two minutes after pinning a network share folder to Quick Access has been fixed, significantly improving the functionality and efficiency of file management on Windows 11.
The update also brings new features, such as a revamped account manager on the Start menu, designed to simplify the management of account settings. Another significant addition is the new sound settings backup feature, which enables users to save their sound settings when signing into a Microsoft account, enhancing the user experience by providing a more personalized and consistent setup across devices. These features, alongside various bug fixes, demonstrate Microsoft’s ongoing commitment to improving Windows 11 through regular updates.
Additional fixes in this update address issues with Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) Audio headsets, which previously did not show options to connect or disconnect. The update also resolves screen distortion problems when using Chromium-based browsers to play videos and fixes issues affecting printers in AppContainer or restricted environments. Furthermore, it addresses a bug in apps that support encrypted email, which previously prompted users to re-enter credentials each time an encrypted email was opened.
This update, available as an optional download, allows Windows administrators and users to test the improvements and fixes ahead of the broader release scheduled for next month’s Patch Tuesday. Users can install it via Windows Update or download it directly from the Microsoft Update Catalog. Microsoft has extended support for non-security preview updates for Windows 11 22H2 Enterprise and Education editions until June 2025, and for Home, Pro, Pro Education, and Pro for Workstations editions until June 2024, allowing more users to benefit from continuous innovation and improvements.
