Sterling Plumbing Faces Data Breach

Sterling Plumbing, a well-established plumbing products manufacturer based in Wisconsin and a brand of Kohler, recently experienced a data breach that may have compromised sensitive personal identifiable information of an undetermined number of individuals. Founded in 1907, Sterling offers a full line of mid-priced bathroom and kitchen plumbing products known for their versatile style and ease of installation. As a subsidiary of Kohler, one of America’s oldest and largest privately held companies, Sterling benefits from the resources and reputation of its parent company, which employs over 10,000 people.

The breach was discovered when Sterling identified unauthorized access to its systems on March 18, 2024. In response, Sterling initiated an investigation and began notifying individuals potentially affected by the breach. The specific types of personal information exposed have not been disclosed publicly. However, based on state reporting guidelines, the compromised data could include names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, government-issued ID numbers, financial account details, medical information, health insurance information, biometric data, and genetic data.

Sterling has taken steps to address the breach and mitigate any potential harm to affected individuals. The company is working with cybersecurity experts to enhance its security measures and prevent future incidents. Individuals impacted by the breach are being provided with guidance on how to protect their personal information and monitor for any signs of identity theft or fraud.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges companies face in safeguarding sensitive information against cyber threats. As investigations continue, Sterling is committed to maintaining transparency and providing support to those affected. For more details and updates on the breach, individuals are encouraged to contact Sterling directly and stay informed about the latest developments in the investigation.
