Hamburg Airport successfully defended against a cyber attack on Whit Sunday, with hackers managing to access only data from an external IT system. The hackers, purportedly from the pro-Russian group Just Evil/Kill Milk, claimed to have breached parts of the secured airport area during the attack.
However, upon investigation, Hamburg Airport confirmed that the attack targeted an IT system used for monitoring guard patrols, hosted separately by an external service provider. Fortunately, this system has no connection to critical airport infrastructure, ensuring no security-related information was compromised.
The airport’s swift response and the isolated nature of the affected system prevented any disruption to air traffic or other operational aspects. Despite claims from the hacker group, Hamburg Airport reassured the public that security measures remained intact and air travel remained unaffected.
