Sawnee EMC Hit by Cybersecurity Breach

Sawnee Electric Membership Corporation (EMC), a utility company serving parts of north Georgia, recently announced a significant cybersecurity incident impacting their company website. The breach was detected by the company, which promptly advised its customers through an email communication. Customers were instructed to refrain from using the compromised website, sawnee.com, for any activities and were directed instead to a new website, www.sawnee.coop. This measure was taken to safeguard customer information and prevent any further unauthorized access.

The utility company emphasized the seriousness of the breach and has launched a comprehensive investigation to understand the extent and specifics of the data compromise. Sawnee EMC has taken immediate steps to secure their systems and is working diligently to resolve the issues brought on by the cybersecurity incident. They have also established a new email contact, customerservice@sawnee.coop, for customers needing assistance during this time, ensuring that customer service remains uninterrupted.

In addition to the website change and the ongoing investigation, Sawnee EMC has been actively communicating with their customers to keep them informed about the situation and any developments. The company has committed to updating its customers as more information becomes available, maintaining transparency about the steps being taken to address the incident.

Sawnee EMC serves a substantial customer base across seven counties in north Georgia, including Fulton, Cherokee, Gwinnett, Forsyth, Hall, Dawson, and Lumpkin. The cybersecurity incident has raised concerns among residents and customers about the security of their personal information managed by the utility. Sawnee EMC’s prompt response and ongoing efforts to manage the situation illustrate their commitment to protecting customer data and restoring trust.
