RGB-TEAM Breaches Russian Criminal Database

Hacktivist group RGB-TEAM has claimed responsibility for breaching Russia‘s prosecutor general’s website, revealing a database containing records of criminal offenses committed in Russia over the past three decades. The leaked archive, published on the group’s Telegram channel, comprises 100,000 records spanning from 1993 to 2022, shedding light on theft, drug sales, and insults to police officers among other offenses.

While Russia’s prosecutor general has yet to comment on the leak, independent investigative media outlet Important Stories confirmed the authenticity of the leaked data, highlighting the real cases of crimes committed by Russians. However, the motive behind the breach remains unclear, with RGB-TEAM describing themselves as “a community of anonymous hacktivists fighting for freedom.”

This incident adds to the ongoing cyber tensions between Ukraine and Russia, where hack-and-leak operations have become commonplace. Notably, earlier breaches targeted Russian prisoners’ data, and CNN reports reveal that hackers even manipulated prices of items within the Russian prison system’s online commissary.
