Maxillofacial & Implant Surgery Data Breach

Maxillofacial & Implant Surgery took decisive action upon discovering unauthorized network access on October 5, 2023. Engaging a cybersecurity firm, NOVA OMS investigated thoroughly, uncovering that between October 3 – 6, 2023, an unknown entity acquired some files containing personal or protected health information. The breach prompted NOVA OMS to analyze the impacted data, leading to the confirmation on February 28, 2024, that individuals’ sensitive information was potentially at risk. Subsequently, NOVA OMS promptly notified the affected parties by mail on March 27, 2024, with detailed guidance on safeguarding their information.

While there is currently no evidence of misuse, NOVA OMS took proactive steps to inform impacted individuals about the incident and the protective measures they can take. The compromised data may include names, Social Security numbers, tax identification numbers, driver’s license details, dates of birth, patient IDs, medical records, and health insurance information, necessitating vigilance from those affected. To fortify network security and prevent future breaches, NOVA OMS has enforced additional safeguards and reported the incident to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), demonstrating a commitment to data protection and cybersecurity resilience.

Recognizing the importance of transparency and support, NOVA OMS established a dedicated toll-free call center to address queries and alleviate concerns of those affected by the breach. Operating on weekdays from 9 am to 9 pm EST, the call center offers a valuable resource for individuals seeking clarity or assistance in response to the incident. NOVA OMS emphasizes the paramountcy of safeguarding personal and health information, expressing regret for any inconvenience or apprehension stemming from the incident.
