Eastern Radiologists, Inc., based in Greenville, NC, has reported a significant data breach affecting nearly 887,000 individuals. The breach occurred due to unauthorized access detected between November 20 and November 24, 2023. A third-party cybersecurity firm investigated the incident, confirming unauthorized access to the network during that period, leading to the exposure of patient information.
The investigation, concluded on January 26, 2024, revealed that the compromised data included patients’ names along with various sensitive details such as contact information, Social Security numbers, insurance details, and medical information like exam results and diagnoses. Eastern Radiologists has taken steps to enhance security measures and bolster network monitoring capabilities to prevent future breaches. However, the breach notice on their website does not mention offering credit monitoring or identity theft protection services to affected individuals.
Notification letters to the impacted individuals began to be sent out on March 4, 2024, informing them of the breach and the potential exposure of their personal and medical information. Despite the breach, Eastern Radiologists is working diligently to improve security measures to better safeguard patient data and prevent similar incidents in the future.
