Brave Launches Privacy AI Assistant

Brave Software, the company behind the Brave browser, has launched a new privacy-focused AI assistant named “Leo” for its Android version. Leo is designed to perform diverse tasks such as summarizing webpages or videos, answering questions, translating pages, coding, transcribing audio or video clips, and generating written content. Users can easily access Leo by tapping the “star” button or selecting it from the options menu.

The AI assistant is available in two tiers: a free version and a premium subscription priced at $14.99 per month. The premium version offers higher rate limits and can be used across five devices on various platforms, including Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android. Leo leverages advanced large-language models like Mixtral 8x7B, Claude Instant, and Llama 2 13B to deliver high-quality responses with fewer errors.

Despite the convenience offered by AI tools on mobile devices, privacy concerns arise due to continuous background monitoring of user interactions. However, Brave emphasizes Leo’s strong privacy safeguards, ensuring user anonymity and data protection. These measures include no requirement for a Brave account to use Leo (free tier), no recording of user chats, anonymization of user requests, and deletion of responses from Brave’s servers after generation.

Leo will be gradually rolled out to Brave browser users on Android through version 1.63, with plans for availability on iOS devices in the near future. Brave aims to provide users with a privacy-preserving AI assistant that enhances their browsing experience while prioritizing data security and anonymity.
