Sidaction Cyberattack Exposes Donor Data

Sidaction, a well-known AIDS association, recently reported a Sidaction hit by a cyberattack on its service provider’s hosting system. This attack has raised significant concerns about the potential exposure of donors’ personal data, including names, addresses, and donation amounts. The breach also extends to certain donors’ banking information, further exacerbating the security risks associated with the incident.

While the exact scope of the breach remains under investigation, initial estimates suggest that less than 20% of donors who contributed since January 2023 may have been affected. Despite this relatively limited impact, Sidaction is taking proactive measures to address the situation promptly and responsibly. The association’s priority is to safeguard the privacy and security of its donors’ sensitive information.

In response to the cyberattack, Sidaction is reinforcing its online security protocols to prevent future breaches and ensure the integrity of its donation platform. Additionally, the association is actively communicating with affected individuals, providing them with necessary information and guidance to protect themselves against potential fraud or misuse of their personal data.

As part of its commitment to transparency and accountability, Sidaction has also notified relevant regulatory authorities, including the CNIL, to report the breach and seek guidance on further steps to mitigate its impact. Despite the challenges posed by the cyber incident, Sidaction remains steadfast in its mission to combat AIDS and support affected communities, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts to address cybersecurity threats in the digital age.
