The traffic signal system in the Gnalp-Steg tunnel experienced a complete failure, attributed to malware based on initial assessments by the manufacturer. Investigations are ongoing to determine the source of this malware infiltration into the traffic signal system server. Simultaneously, measures to prevent similar incidents in the future are being explored.
To manage weekend traffic, manual control by the Office for Civil Engineering and Geoinformation staff was implemented on Saturdays and Sundays, ensuring uninterrupted traffic flow. On Monday, February 5, 2024, a temporary construction site light was installed to regulate tunnel traffic, anticipating slight delays during this phase. Collaborative efforts between the responsible authority and the traffic signal system manufacturer are focused on restoring the system’s operation, with the goal of resuming normal functionality before the upcoming weekend.
