Hackers Claim Epic Games Data Breach

A newly emerging ransomware group, Mogilevich, claimed responsibility for infiltrating Epic Games, the developer of Fortnite, alleging to have stolen a substantial 189GB of sensitive data, including emails, passwords, payment information, and source code. According to Cyber Daily, the group has initiated a ransom demand, setting a deadline for Epic Games to comply by March 4. Despite this ultimatum, Mogilevich has not specified the ransom amount or provided evidence of the hacked data, leaving uncertainty regarding potential repercussions if Epic Games fails to meet their demands.

Mogilevich’s foray into the ransomware scene is recent, with its first recorded attack occurring just eight days prior, targeting companies like Nissan subsidiary Infiniti USA, Bazaarvoice, and Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs. The group has declared its mission to penalize corporations that neglect their cybersecurity, asserting their expertise as skilled pen-testers. However, Epic Games has responded, stating they are currently investigating the claims and have found no substantiated evidence provided by Mogilevich to validate the alleged breach.

Epic Games swiftly initiated an inquiry upon learning of the claims, prompted by a screenshot circulating on social media. They have reached out to Mogilevich for proof of the breach, but as of yet, have received no response. The situation remains unresolved as Epic Games awaits further communication from Mogilevich, including any demands or evidence substantiating the purported hack.
