Italy Basilicata Health System Cyber Threat

The Basilicata region’s health computer system in Italy faced a cyber attack in January, leading to disruptions and unauthorized access. The ASP (Azienda sanitaria locale) promptly informed authorities and initiated a crisis team to manage the situation. IT technicians were instructed to assess the extent of the breach and implement protective measures, with the possibility of service difficulties on January 29.

ASP Director General Antonello Maraldo apologized for the inconvenience, assuring users of collaborative efforts with regional health entities and a commitment to providing updates and necessary provisions to mitigate any long-term impact.

Despite the immediate response, ASP acknowledges potential service challenges on January 29 due to the cyber attack. The Strategic Directorate established an internal crisis unit to coordinate with delivery point directors and manage information acquisition in a coordinated manner. District representatives were advised to equip themselves with alternative tools if critical issues arise in the IT system. ASP emphasizes its dedication to resolving the problem collaboratively with other Lucanian companies, the Department, and the Region, expressing regret for any inconvenience caused to users.

Antonello Maraldo, the General Manager of ASP Basilicata, reassures users of ongoing efforts to solve the problem and promises regular updates. ASP remains committed to working synergistically with other Lucanian companies, the Department, and the Region to address the cyber attack’s impact on the health system.

The local health company acknowledges the importance of limiting any service disruptions over time and pledges to provide users with further provisions and updates as the situation unfolds.
