Abu Dhabi’s prestigious financial institution, The National Investor, sounded the alarm about the illicit use of its brand in cyber scams proliferating across the country. The advisory, prominently featured on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange, revealed a concerning trend where the company’s name, logo, and even employees’ identities are exploited to promote sham investment opportunities.
Perpetrators, under the guise of the National Investor, entice unsuspecting individuals and entities to disclose sensitive personal and business information, along with financial details like bank accounts and credit cards, under the pretext of participating in fake tenders or investing in the company.
This warning emerges amidst a backdrop of escalating cybersecurity threats in the region, with recent reports of phishing messages impersonating official entities and compromised search engine results related to Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority and tourist sites. The National Investor’s alert underscores the pervasive nature of cyber fraud and the need for heightened vigilance within the financial landscape.
