The undisclosed acquisition, finalized on December 26, reflects SonicWall’s strategic response to the heightened demand for robust security solutions in the face of increasing remote workforces. Banyan Security, a startup specializing in cloud-based zero-trust network access (ZTNA) through its security service edge (SSE) platform, is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening SonicWall’s offerings for enterprises navigating hybrid work environments.
The move is particularly timely as the adoption of ZTNA has surged, driven by the ongoing global shift toward hybrid work arrangements. SonicWall’s existing ZTNA offering, integrated into its Cloud Edge Secure Access product, emphasizes least privilege access policies, microsegmentation to reduce attack surfaces, and support for various devices. The acquisition of Banyan is set to complement SonicWall’s capabilities by focusing on device-centric SSE, targeting organizations with hybrid workforces.
SonicWall’s CEO, Bob VanKirk, highlighted the significance of this acquisition in the context of evolving cybersecurity paradigms.
