CISA Q4 Advisory Meet

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) wrapped up its fourth and final 2023 quarterly Cybersecurity Advisory Committee (CSAC) meeting in Carlsbad, California. During the session, subcommittees focused on advancing memory-safe system languages (MSSL) and enhancing operational collaboration, resulting in a total of 135 recommendations submitted in 2023. These recommendations, voted on during the meeting, will be formally presented to CISA Director Jen Easterly for consideration. The emphasis on memory-safe languages aligns with CISA’s commitment to improving cybersecurity, acknowledging the persistent threat of vulnerabilities in programming languages.

CISA Director Jen Easterly expressed satisfaction with the Committee’s work, anticipating a more productive 2024. The recommendations, to be posted on CISA.gov, will undergo review, and Director Easterly’s responses will also be published on the agency’s website. The transition in CSAC leadership was acknowledged, with Ron Green from Mastercard assuming the role of Chair and Dave DeWalt from NightDragon as Vice Chair, succeeding Tom Fanning from Southern Company. The outgoing Chair’s visionary leadership set a course focused on innovation and process improvement for critical infrastructure security.

Established in 2021, the CSAC plays a crucial role in providing recommendations to the CISA Director to advance the agency’s cybersecurity mission and strengthen national cybersecurity measures. The next CSAC meeting, scheduled for March, will be conducted virtually. Details on attending will be provided in due course, and the agenda from the recent meeting, along with additional information on CSAC, is available on the CISA website.
