The Capital Health network, responsible for overseeing various medical facilities, including the Regional Medical Center in Trenton and the Capital Health Medical Center in Hopewell, is currently investigating a cyber attack that has led to network outages and disruptions to patient services. Officials suspect that the nature of the attack resembles incidents targeting other healthcare providers. Capital Health anticipates the impact of the cyber attack on its network to persist for several days, emphasizing the severity and complexity of the situation. Despite the challenges posed by the cyber attack, Capital Health assures the public that emergency rooms remain open, and both hospitals continue to admit and treat inpatients.
However, elective surgical and procedural schedules have undergone adjustments, with minimal impact reported. Certain outpatient services, such as radiology, neurophysiology, and non-invasive cardiology testing, are temporarily unavailable and will be rescheduled. The health system is actively notifying affected patients about the need to reschedule appointments, maintaining transparency and communication during this period of disruption. Capital Health’s Information Technology team is diligently working to assess the situation, safeguard data, and restore system functionality.
While certain elective procedures face rescheduling, the health system underscores that all Capital Health Medical Group practices and other essential locations, such as LIFE and CARES, remain open for patient visits. The prioritization of surgeries based on urgency and critical nature further highlights the healthcare provider’s commitment to navigating challenges posed by the cyber attack and ensuring the delivery of safe and effective patient care.
