Glendale College Cyber Breach Response

Glendale Community College faced a significant cybersecurity incident on November 10, 2023, leading to the immediate shutdown of various Information Technology Systems. In response, the college swiftly launched an investigation and took essential steps to secure the compromised information systems. Despite the inconvenience caused, the institution expressed gratitude for the community’s patience and support as they diligently worked towards restoring operations safely and promptly.

Furthermore, the cybersecurity breach, identified as a ransomware attack, encrypted files, rendering them and the associated systems inoperative. Details of the attack are still under investigation, and it remains unclear whether any personal information was compromised.

Additionally, the college assured affected parties that updates on this matter would be provided as more information becomes available. Concurrently, efforts were made to assist faculty and students in regaining access to Canvas, including the provision of a new server access and instructions for password resets.

At the same time, as Glendale Community College continues to address the security threat, ongoing initiatives involve resolving a firewall communication issue. The college committed to keeping the community informed by sending out messages once this issue is resolved. The incident has impacted priority registration, resulting in a delay; however, students with priority registration will retain this status, and new dates will be communicated.

Additionally, the upcoming drop deadline, originally scheduled for Saturday, will be rescheduled in light of the cybersecurity incident. The college remains proactive in managing the situation, ensuring the security of its systems and the well-being of its academic community.
