Microsoft has officially announced the expansion of its Copilot AI-powered assistant to Windows 10 systems within the Insider Program, with a gradual rollout planned over the next few months.
Initially introduced in September and enabled by default on Windows 11 23H2 devices, Copilot will now be available for testing on Windows 10 22H2 devices through the Windows Insider Program for Business Release Preview Channel. The controlled feature rollout will include Home and unmanaged Pro editions of Windows 10 22H2. Users with eligible devices can opt-in for early testing by navigating to the Windows Update settings after installing the November 2023 non-security preview update.
The Copilot experience on Windows 10 mirrors its Windows 11 counterpart, offering a chat window docked on the desktop, activated by clicking the Copilot icon in the taskbar. Voice interactions are supported by clicking the microphone icon in the chat window.
However, certain functionalities available on Windows 11, such as opening apps or customizing preferences, will not be fully replicated on Windows 10. The preview release of Copilot on Windows 10 will be initially available in specific global markets, starting with North America and parts of Asia and South America, with further markets gradually added.
Microsoft has clarified that systems running Pro, Enterprise, and Education editions of Windows 10 version 22H2 will not be included in the initial Copilot rollout. IT administrators can prepare for Copilot on Windows 10 by referring to the guidance provided on the “Manage Copilot in Windows” support page. This announcement aligns with a recent report from Windows Central, detailing Microsoft’s strategy to broaden Copilot’s user base by integrating the AI assistant into the desktops of Windows 10 users.
