Former NFL great Earl Thomas has reportedly fallen victim to an identity theft scheme, with his ex-wife’s boyfriend, Kevin J. Thompson, accused of orchestrating a $1.9 million scam.
Furthermore, Thompson, who was arrested by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, faces a litany of charges, including identity theft, forgery, money laundering, and more. He allegedly used a forged driver’s license to create a bogus bank account in Thomas’s name and transfer auto titles, including one for a Rolls-Royce Cullinan SUV, which he drove to the bank on the day of his arrest.
It remains unclear how Thompson obtained physical possession of the vehicles involved in this case, which were transferred and subsequently sold. Authorities detected suspicious activity when Thomas’s credit union in Texas noticed activity in an account at Jefferson Financial, which was opened fraudulently in New Orleans. Federal investigators are also involved in the case, suggesting the complexity and significance of the allegations. The incident involving the alleged identity theft comes in the wake of Thomas and his ex-wife’s divorce in 2020 and a Christmas Eve altercation in the same year.
