The England-based recruitment agency, Delaney Browne Recruitment, has become a victim of a cyber attack orchestrated by the 8BASE ransomware group, as reported in an article by Vishwa Pandagle in Firewall Daily on August 7, 2023. The attackers claim to have obtained sensitive personal and organizational data as a result of this breach. The incident sheds light on the potential risks associated with stealing recruitment data, which hackers could exploit for targeted job-related email scams and other cyber attacks using social engineering tactics.
Furthermore, 8BASE, an active ransomware group since 2022, revealed details about the Delaney Browne cyber attack, stating that they have accessed various crucial documents and files. These include invoices, receipts, accounting documents, personal data, certificates, employment contracts, confidentiality agreements, and personal files of employees and clients.
At the same time, the group posted this information on their dark web portal, and a screenshot of it was shared by the Threat Intelligence Service Falcon Feeds, confirming their involvement in the attack.
The cyber attack highlights the potential dangers of data breaches within the recruitment sector, where stolen information could be misused for job-related scams. It is recommended for individuals to exercise caution, avoid clicking on suspicious links in job-related emails, and take necessary precautions to secure their personal and professional data.
