1Password has announced the acquisition of Kolide, a significant player in device security and access management, to bolster security measures for remote and hybrid workers. Widely recognized as a leading password manager, 1Password serves over 100,000 businesses and millions of customers globally. CEO Jeff Shiner emphasizes that this strategic move will enable businesses to close security gaps and attain Zero Trust access objectives, aligning with the dynamic changes in the contemporary workplace.
Kolide, based in Massachusetts, provides access management solutions to notable organizations like Discord, Robinhood, and Databricks. Following the acquisition, Jason Meller, Kolide’s CEO, will join 1Password as its vice president of product, and the Kolide team will integrate fully with 1Password. Meller assures users that Kolide will continue as a stand-alone product, maintaining its current offerings, with plans to enhance features and options for single sign-on (SSO) integration, emphasizing a commitment to “user-first security.”
This marks 1Password’s third acquisition since 2021, following the procurement of SecretHub in April 2021 and Passage, a modern authentication service, in November 2022. The move aligns with 1Password’s continuous effort to evolve and provide cutting-edge security solutions. The company has been rebuilding its client apps to accelerate the rollout of new features across various platforms, reflecting a commitment to making security more accessible and efficient.
