Veer Chetal Arrested in $243M Crypto Heist

In March 2025, U.S. Marshals arrested Veer Chetal, also known as “Wiz,” the third suspect in a major cryptocurrency heist. The trio, including Greavys (Malone Iam) and Box (Jeandiel Serrano), carried out the $243 million attack targeting a Genesis creditor. They used social engineering tactics, such as spoofed phone numbers and fake support calls, to manipulate their victim into transferring funds and resetting their two-factor authentication. A single transfer of 4064 BTC, valued at $238 million, took place early in the morning on February 21, 2024.

Wiz played a key role in the heist and received a large portion of the stolen funds. His full name was leaked during the theft, which was captured on a screen share.

Multiple recordings also revealed his identity as Veer, leading to his eventual arrest. The mugshot of Veer Chetal was shared online by investigator ZachXBT, while authorities confirmed his arrest by U.S. Marshals. He faces significant prison time if convicted of the charges related to the theft.

The arrest of Wiz follows the apprehension of his accomplices, Greavys and Box, who were arrested in September 2024.

Greavys, identified as Malone Lam, and Box, known as Jeandiel Serrano, were both charged with conspiring to steal and launder cryptocurrency. Malone had used the stolen funds to purchase luxury goods, including a fleet of expensive vehicles and designer items. The stolen funds were laundered through XMR, and both Box and Wiz made crucial errors by linking laundered funds to the stolen ones.

Investigations revealed that over $9 million of the stolen funds were frozen, with some returned to the victim. Lam, who remains a flight risk, is facing multiple charges related to wire fraud and money laundering, with a potential prison sentence of up to 20 years. The investigation continues, with significant portions of the stolen Bitcoin still unaccounted for, while authorities continue to target luxury assets tied to the fraudsters.
