Veeam Software has announced the acquisition of Alcion, an AI-focused data management startup. This acquisition strengthens Veeam’s capabilities in cyber resilience, particularly in backup solutions for Microsoft 365, which protect against ransomware, malware, and other cyber threats. Alcion’s innovative technology will enhance Veeam’s ability to provide robust data protection and recovery solutions.
As part of the acquisition, Niraj Tolia, co-founder of Alcion, has been appointed as Veeam’s new Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Tolia brings a wealth of experience in the data protection field, having previously played a key role in the creation of Kasten, a leading Kubernetes data resilience solution that was acquired by Veeam in 2020. His expertise is expected to help shape Veeam’s product strategy, particularly for the rapidly growing Veeam Data Cloud product.
Veeam’s Data Cloud product is its fastest-growing offering and a core part of the company’s expansion strategy. With Tolia at the helm of product strategy, Veeam aims to further strengthen its position in the data protection and cyber resilience market. The acquisition of Alcion aligns with Veeam’s vision of innovating to meet the growing challenges of securing data in a cloud-first world.
The acquisition brings immediate integration, with Alcion’s team joining Veeam’s workforce. According to Anand Eswaran, CEO of Veeam, Tolia’s leadership and proven track record will play a significant role in driving Veeam’s future growth and market leadership in data resilience, positioning the company to redefine the industry once again.
