Statewide Aquastore, Inc., a liquid storage solutions company based in East Syracuse, New York, recently reported a data breach to the Attorney General of New Hampshire. The breach was traced back to a cybersecurity incident involving Arete Advisors, LLC, a third-party provider that assists with reviewing and summarizing data. Statewide was made aware of the breach after discovering that an unauthorized individual had sent an email to certain individuals, containing sensitive data that was under Arete’s care. Upon learning of this, Statewide launched an investigation to assess the scope and nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Statewide determined that sensitive personal information had been exposed when an attachment containing the data was sent in the email. The impacted data varied depending on the individual but included personally identifiable information such as names and Social Security numbers. Statewide’s efforts focused on identifying the specific individuals affected by the breach and reviewing the data to ensure a thorough understanding of the exposure.
As part of the company’s response to the breach, Statewide Aquastore began mailing data breach notification letters to those individuals whose information had been affected. On September 5, 2024, affected individuals were notified of the breach and provided with details about the type of sensitive information that may have been compromised. The company also offered complimentary credit monitoring services to those impacted by the breach as a precautionary measure to help mitigate the potential risks associated with the exposed data.
Founded in 1980, Statewide Aquastore specializes in the supply, construction, and servicing of AQUASTORE® water and wastewater storage tanks. Its advanced glass-fused-to-steel coating system has set a high industry standard for both private and public sector applications. The company serves eight states and employs over 20 individuals. Despite this breach, Statewide continues to prioritize the security of its customers’ data and has taken necessary steps to address the situation and prevent future incidents.
