South Western Communications, Inc. (SWC) has informed customers of a data security incident that may have affected personal and protected health information. The breach occurred between December 21 and December 22, 2023, when an encryption event disrupted the company’s network. SWC swiftly secured its digital environment and engaged a digital forensics firm to investigate the incident.
The investigation revealed that certain data on the SWC network might have been accessed or acquired without authorization. On July 10, 2024, SWC confirmed that some of the affected data included personal and protected health information. The company has since conducted a thorough review and gathered the necessary contact information to notify impacted individuals.
In response to the breach, SWC has reported the incident to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and implemented additional security measures to prevent future occurrences. The company is also offering complimentary identity protection services through Cyberscout, a TransUnion company, which include alerts for changes to credit files and proactive fraud assistance.
SWC encourages affected individuals to review the recommendations provided and enroll in the complimentary identity protection services within 90 days. To access these services, individuals should use the unique code provided and follow the instructions at the Cyberscout activation link.
