Samsung boosts One UI 8 security

Samsung’s One UI 8 is set to introduce a suite of substantial data security and privacy upgrades for Galaxy smartphones. A cornerstone of these enhancements is Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP), a new system-level architecture designed to secure sensitive user data within isolated, encrypted environments for individual applications. This is particularly crucial for AI-driven features like ‘Now Brief’ and ‘Smart Gallery Search’, ensuring that user inputs and personal information used by these tools remain protected from unauthorized access. KEEP fundamentally differs from ‘Secure Folder’ by providing an architectural layer of protection rather than just a separate storage space.

Beyond individual app security, One UI 8 strengthens Samsung’s multi-device security platform, Knox Matrix.

This updated system will automatically sign out a user’s Samsung Account and alert them across all connected Galaxy devices if it detects any manipulation or identity forgery, thereby preventing attackers from accessing cloud services and other linked devices.

Additionally, Knox Matrix will now proactively warn users about pending security updates, encouraging timely application of patches to maintain robust protection across their ecosystem of devices.

The upcoming One UI 8 also introduces significant advancements in network security with upgrades to Samsung’s ‘Secure WiFi’. This enhanced feature will integrate the NIST-certified ML-KEM scheme to provide post-quantum cryptographic resistance. This crucial addition fortifies the key-exchange process, safeguarding encrypted connections from emerging quantum computing threats, such as “harvest now, decrypt later” attacks that could compromise sensitive data in the future. ‘Secure WiFi’ further bolsters protection by automatically strengthening connections to public hotspots and offering features like multi-point routing and packet encryption for anonymization.

While One UI 8 is anticipated to debut with the new Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7, Samsung confirms that the update will also roll out to older Galaxy models. Users are encouraged to upgrade to One UI 8 and review their data privacy and security settings to fully leverage these new protections. These comprehensive enhancements underscore Samsung’s commitment to fortifying user data against an evolving landscape of digital threats, particularly as AI becomes more integrated into daily smartphone use.
