Richmond University Medical Center Breached

Richmond University Medical Center recently reported a significant data security incident involving unauthorized access to its network. On May 6, 2023, the medical center discovered that a sophisticated cyberattack had compromised its systems, potentially exposing personal and protected health information. In response, the center immediately launched an investigation with the help of external cybersecurity professionals to determine the full extent of the breach. Although the investigation is still ongoing, the center is committed to protecting the privacy and security of the data it holds.

The ongoing investigation has yet to uncover any confirmed reports of identity theft or fraud resulting from the breach. However, Richmond University Medical Center is taking a proactive approach to safeguard affected individuals. As a precaution, the center has begun notifying those potentially impacted by the breach and is offering guidance on how they can protect themselves from potential identity theft. This includes steps such as placing a fraud alert on their credit files to warn creditors before opening new accounts.

Richmond University Medical Center reassured the public that protecting personal and protected health information remains a top priority. In addition to addressing the immediate breach, the medical center emphasized its ongoing efforts to strengthen internal controls and security measures. The institution has committed to reviewing and modifying its practices regularly to enhance the privacy and protection of sensitive patient data.

For individuals with concerns or questions regarding the incident, Richmond University Medical Center has set up a dedicated, confidential toll-free response line. Available from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM Eastern Time, the line offers support and information for those affected. The medical center is determined to continue its investigation while keeping the public informed on further developments and steps to mitigate the impact of the breach.
