Consumers affected by a 2023 data breach involving Great Expressions dental centers may be eligible for payments from a $2.7 million settlement. The settlement applies to individuals who received a breach notification related to the February 2023 security incident. Great Expressions operates 246 dental care centers across the U.S.
The lawsuit alleges that Great Expressions failed to implement reasonable cybersecurity measures, allowing hackers to access sensitive information, including Social Security numbers. The settlement establishes two subclasses: one for those whose Social Security numbers were potentially compromised and one for those whose numbers were not impacted.
Class members whose Social Security numbers were compromised can receive up to $500 for ordinary losses, $5,000 for extraordinary losses, and compensation for up to two hours of lost time at $20 per hour. Those whose Social Security numbers were not compromised can receive a maximum of $40 for lost time.
To participate in the settlement, eligible consumers must submit a valid claim form by November 8, 2024. The deadline for exclusion or objection is October 11, 2024, and the final approval hearing is set for December 12, 2024.
