Matters AI Raises 6 Million For Security

The enterprise data security startup Matters.AI has announced the successful closure of its seed and pre-seed funding rounds, raising a combined total of $6.25 million. The bulk of this capital came from a $4.75 million seed round that was co-led by Endiya Partners and Kalaari Capital, and saw additional participation from firms including Better Capital and Carya Venture Partners, as well as several angel investors. The earlier $1.5 million pre-seed round was primarily driven by Better Capital and Carya Venture Partners.

Founded in 2023 and headquartered in San Francisco, Matters.AI has created an innovative, autonomous platform designed for safeguarding enterprise data. The company has branded this solution as an ‘AI Security Engineer’ because of its comprehensive and integrated approach. It functions by consolidating various data security features into a single solution, intelligently correlating information from an organization’s diverse systems to both proactively identify and prevent the misuse of sensitive data.

At its core, the platform relies on semantic intelligence and behavioral context to gain a deep understanding of the enterprise data landscape. This technology allows it to find data across various devices and computing environments, while simultaneously learning the context of how and why that data is being used. This continuous learning process is critical to its mission: protecting data regardless of where it resides or how it moves throughout the organization.

The capabilities of the ‘AI Security Engineer’ are extensive, offering crucial visibility into endpoints, comprehensive data lineage and fingerprinting, and robust data governance particularly for emerging agentic AI tools. The solution’s versatility ensures it can be deployed across both traditional on-premises setups and modern SaaS environments. The substantial new injection of funds will be strategically utilized to accelerate the company’s research and development, significantly scale up its engineering team, and actively expand its market presence throughout the United States.

Sateesh Andra, a managing director at Endiya Partners, articulated the platform’s value proposition, noting that security teams frequently cite a significant gap “between visibility and enforcement.” He stated that Matters.AI addresses this by unifying “discovery, lineage, and intent-aware controls into a single policy plane.” This comprehensive approach enables organizations to effectively prevent data exfiltration across complex environments—including cloud, SaaS, endpoints, and the growing suite of AI tools—while simultaneously achieving the highly desired goal of cutting down on excessive alert noise.
