Lee Bank has informed a customer that a processing error caused their account information, including the account number and name, to be inadvertently visible to another customer. This error was the result of a check-related issue where typically secure details were exposed. The error was quickly detected, and the visible information was promptly removed to prevent any further exposure.
Although the customer’s information was temporarily accessible, there is no indication that any fraudulent activity has occurred as a result of the incident. Lee Bank emphasized that no other personal or account details were compromised in the breach, and the error was rectified as soon as it was identified. The bank assured the customer that their account remains secure despite this brief exposure.
To ensure the safety of their accounts, Lee Bank encouraged the affected customer to monitor their banking activity regularly, particularly through reviewing statements and using online banking tools. If any unrecognized or suspicious transactions occur, the customer is advised to report them immediately to the bank for further investigation and action.
Under Massachusetts law, the customer has the right to obtain any police report filed concerning the incident and to file a report in the event of identity theft. The customer may also opt to place a security freeze on their credit file, which will prevent credit agencies from releasing information without written authorization. However, the bank cautioned that a security freeze could delay or interfere with the approval of future financial transactions such as loans or mortgages.
