New Defensive Methods Stop Crypto Botnets

A new Common Good Cyber Fund has been launched to support the important work of many non-profit organizations. It will help groups that deliver core cybersecurity services for the wider public good on the entire internet. The fund has been established by Common Good Cyber, which is a global initiative set up to implement models. This will help sustain groups, organizations, and individuals involved in many critical cybersecurity functions for the internet community.

The governments of the UK and Canada have announced that they will both invest in the new joint fund.

During the recent G7 Leaders’ Summit in Canada, all G7 Leaders announced their full support for these initiatives. They will aid members of civil society who are actively working to counter the threat of transnational repression. The new fund will focus on supporting non-profits that provide a wide variety of different online security services.

The new fund will operate through a very collaborative and open structure, which will be managed by the Internet Society. An expert advisory board will provide strategic guidance on developing all of the different granting programs for the fund. Further information about the funding, application process, and other key details will be shared in the coming months.

The new fund is a first of its kind effort to fund cybersecurity for the common good for everyone.

Common Good Cyber is made up of seven secretariat non-profit organizations that are from all around the world. The alliance highlighted the particular threats posed to civil society groups through the misuse of various cyber capabilities. This includes journalists and human rights groups who are often the target of many different online attacks. In March 2025, Common Good Cyber launched a new mapping database designed to help NGOs stay secure online.
