Recently, Davidoff Hutcher & Citron LLP reported a data breach to the Attorney General of Maine, revealing that sensitive personal identifiable information may have been accessed by unauthorized individuals. The law firm detected suspicious activity on its computer network on August 18, 2023, which triggered an investigation into the nature of the incident. This inquiry determined that unauthorized access to sensitive personal information could have occurred between January 12 and August 18, 2023, leading DHC to initiate a comprehensive review of the data to assess the impact.
The investigation uncovered that a variety of personal information might have been compromised, including names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license or state identification numbers, account numbers, and personal identification numbers. While the firm has not disclosed the exact details of the potentially exposed information, it adheres to state reporting guidelines regarding personal information. The review process aimed to identify affected individuals and understand the extent of the breach to ensure that appropriate measures could be taken to safeguard their information.
In response to the findings, DHC began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals on August 9, 2024. These letters include information about the types of sensitive data that may have been compromised, as well as offering complimentary credit monitoring services for a period of twelve months. This initiative reflects DHC’s commitment to transparency and its responsibility to help those affected mitigate the risks associated with potential identity theft.
