Consultants in Pain Medicine, a Texas-based medical practice, filed a notice of data breach with the Attorney General of Texas on February 18, 2025, following the discovery of unauthorized access to its computer network. The breach, which occurred between June 26, 2024, and July 7, 2024, led to an unauthorized party gaining access to sensitive consumer data, including Social Security numbers, medical details, financial account information, and health insurance policy data. Upon discovering the breach, the practice took immediate steps to investigate and began notifying affected individuals about the exposure of their data.

To investigate the incident, Consultants in Pain Medicine enlisted a team of cybersecurity experts, who determined that certain files containing confidential patient information had been accessed by an unauthorized party. The breached information varied by individual, with some of the most sensitive details being Social Security numbers, medical information, passport numbers, and driver’s license information. Following the investigation, the practice worked to identify all individuals whose data had been compromised and began sending out data breach notification letters to those affected.

On February 14, 2025, Consultants in Pain Medicine started notifying impacted individuals, providing them with detailed information regarding the specific data compromised in the breach.

The practice reassured those affected by stating that they had taken the necessary steps to address the breach, including consulting with authorities and cybersecurity experts. They also emphasized the importance of being vigilant about possible phishing attempts or other fraudulent activities targeting individuals whose data was exposed.

Consultants in Pain Medicine, based in San Antonio, Texas, specializes in diagnosing and treating chronic pain conditions. The practice employs around 160 people and generates approximately $30 million in annual revenue. The organization offers a range of services, including interventional pain management procedures, physical therapy, and medication management to help patients manage their pain.
